Great Success
HAF’s fifth annual art
show and silent auction, Vacancy:
Albany’s Abandoned Buildings through Artists’ Eyes, was held on
Saturday, November 4, 2006, at the historic Cathedral of All Saints on
So. Swan Street in Albany. The nave of this breathtaking building was
transformed into a vibrant and bustling art gallery for one evening,
showcasing works by more than 80 artists inspired by Albany’s abandoned
buildings. Best in Show was awarded to photographer Jennifer Grainer by
judges Nato Thompson, curator of MASS MoCA, and Michael Oatman, artist
and professor at RPI’s School of Architecture.
More than 320 people attended, bid on, and purchased 113 pieces of
artwork, all the while enjoying mouthwatering hors d’oeuvres by
Spoonful Catering and beverages donated by Capital Wine & Spirits.
A delightful string accompaniment, courtesy of musicians Joe Gumpper
and Maura McNamara, filled the sanctuary throughout the evening,
heightening the evening’s airs of elegance and celebration.
