Job Description:  Development Manager

Type:                   Part time / Hourly

OVERVIEW

Historic Albany Foundation is a 50-year-old membership based non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and protect Albany’s architecture through advocacy, technical services, education programs and the operation of an Architectural Parts Warehouse and Tool Lending Library..

POSITION

The function and purpose of the Development Manager is the responsibility for growing the membership base including renewing and upgrading member support, overseeing the Annual Fund, strengthening, and growing the Corporate Sponsor Program, and strengthening relationships with current donors, especially in this 50th anniversary year and beyond.  The Development Manager is a 20-hour-per-week position with flexible Monday through Friday hours.  Additional hours will be required for HAF special events and programs.  Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with the Executive Director to help to carry out the development goals of the organization in addition to assisting with increased brand awareness support HAF’s mission through the following programs: 

Membership

First and foremost, HAF was founded as a non-profit membership organization.  Membership renewals are sent to current members on a rolling monthly basis.  This position will also be responsible for increasing new memberships through membership campaigns and outreach, creating a membership upgrade campaign and incentives, review of current membership benefits and creating members-only opportunities. 

Annual Fund

Each fall HAF conducts an Annual Fund to raise funds for general operating support.  HAF is looking to increase the revenue generated from the Annual Fund through various mail, online and personal outreach strategies in addition to increasing the monthly giving program.

Corporate Sponsor Program

HAF has enjoyed an increase in corporate sponsorship and is looking to grow this program to support all annual special events and programs including Feast, Built, Preservation Merit Awards, the Tool Library, Restoration Faire and the Bender Lecture as well as other ongoing educational programs.

Grant Writing and Research

HAF is looking to increase its program related grants for projects currently operated including walking and bicycle tours, lunch and learn programs, the Tool Lending Library, and more.

Other

This position reports to and works in collaboration with the Executive Director.

As with all HAF staff there is an expectation of assisting with major fundraising events and programs, both in preparation and on site.

QUALIFICATIONS

Prior professional experience of a minimum of 5 years in a nonprofit organization in a development function with tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time.

Bachelor's degree required.

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; demonstrated ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.

Strong organizational skills

Flexible and adaptable work and interpersonal style

Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also function as a team player who will take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

Experience seeking out and cultivating relationships that lead to increased agency funding.

MUST have a valid driver’s license and consistent access to a car.

Ability to work within a budget.

Provide friendly, donor-centered customer service and represent HAF and our mission in a professional and positive manner.

SALARY

This position is a 20 hour per week role at $24 per hour.
