4th Annual Art Exhibit and Silent Auction VACANCY: Albany’s Abandoned Buildings Through Artists’ Eyes ALBANY, July 21, 2005 -- Historic Albany Foundation is seeking original artwork inspired by Albany’s vacant buildings. VACANCY: Albany’s Abandoned Buildings Through Artists’ Eyes will be presented as a one-night show and sale on Saturday, November 5, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at The Washington Park Lakehouse. Entry deadline is Friday, October 7. A cocktail reception and silent auction will allow guests to enjoy a variety of artistic views of Albany’s once-grand architectural treasures. In addition, guests will have the exclusive opportunity to bid on works by many of the region’s best-known artists. Those who purchase art displayed at the show will be further supporting the education, advocacy and technical assistance programs offered by Historic Albany Foundation. The event is part of an effort to promote awareness of Albany’s endangered buildings through the Foundation’s Vacant Buildings Initiative. While the work need not be representational, it should speak specifically to existing vacant buildings and their impact on Albany’s built and social environments. The Foundation will highlight the histories of selected buildings featured in the art. VACANCY 2005 Honorary Chairs will be Christine Miles and Jake Kelliher. Chris and Jake are longtime residents of Albany, former Historic Albany Foundation board members and avid supporters of the arts. Chris has been the director of the Albany Institute of History & Art since 1986 and Jake is on the board of the Washington Park Neighborhood Association. VACANCY 2005 judges will be Janet Riker, Director of the University Art Museum at The State University of New York and Ian Berry, Curator of the Tang Museum at Skidmore College. A cash prize of $500 will be awarded for Best in Show at the opening reception. The prize will honor the late Nancy Hyatt Liddle in recognition of her vast contributions to and support of art and architecture in Albany. VACANCY offers local artists an exceptional opportunity to display their work to an audience that appreciates the unique historic significance of Albany’s built environment. Participating artists will receive 60% of the proceeds of any work displayed and sold at the reception; the remaining 40% will be a tax-deductible contribution to Historic Albany Foundation. Artists interested in participating in this very exciting event should visit the Foundation’s web site at www.historic-albany.org to download a prospectus, or call 518-465-0876 for information. ### and Architectural Parts Warehouse 89 Lexington Avenue Albany, NY 12206 518/465-0876 www.historic-albany.org |
