First published: Tuesday, November 7, 2006 More than 300 people filed into the historic Cathedral of All Saints on Saturday, not for religious reasons, but to get their fill of art from ``Vacancy: Albany's Abandoned Buildings Through Artists' Eyes'' exhibit. The annual event and silent auction, to benefit the Historic Albany Foundation, featured works of art created by local artists that depict vacant buildings throughout the city. Part of an effort to promote awareness of Albany's endangered buildings through the Foundation's Vacant Buildings Initiative, the evening included a cocktail reception and live music inside the grand cathedral. This year's event raised roughly $25,000 for the foundation's programs and initiatives. ``The space really fit with the art,'' says Christiana Limniatis, communications coordinator for Historic Albany Foundation. ``It was a smashing event.''
