Foundation To Host 3rd Annual Holiday House Tour
The sights, sounds and spirit of the holiday season will fill Albany’s historic neighborhoods on Sunday, December 10, 2006 from 12 noon to 5 pm, as Historic Albany Foundation produces its annual magical holiday celebration. The uniquely decorated private homes of the Center Square, Hudson Park, Washington Park and Pine Hills historic neighborhoods will welcome visitors for the 2006 Historic Albany Foundation’s Holiday House Tour. This year’s tour includes: * The Albany Institute of History & Art will offer free admission with the holiday house tour ticket and a book signing from 1:30pm – 3pm, by Assemblymember Jack McEneny, marking the publication of his updated, definitive work, “Albany: Capital City on the Hudson.” The Museum Shop will feature a “Trunk Sale” in addition to special discounts. * The Fort Orange Club, Albany’s oldest and most elegant private club will hold an open house from 1-4 p.m. for guests to appreciate the intricate interior architectural detail and the classic holiday decorations. * The Harmanus Bleeker Building, the former Albany Public Library, will be open for visitors to see the exceptional rehabilitation of the space and to tour the law offices of Morris & McVeigh LLP. * The Israel AME Church Choir will perform at 1:30 PM. The current building was constructed in 1854 and served as a station on the Underground Railroad throughout the Civil War. * 74 State Street, a stunning example of adaptive re-use of a historic structure in downtown Albany, welcomes visitors to see the multi-million dollar transformation of an early 20th century commercial building into a classic boutique hotel, restaurant and private dining wine cellar. * Lark Street and Hamilton Street restaurants, gourmet food emporiums, specialty shops and boutiques are joining the tour festivities by offering a wine tasting at Capital Wine & Spirits, discounted meals, purchases and drawings for gifts upon presentation of the tour ticket. *Capital Holiday Lights in the Park and the Albany Trolley (a division of Albany Aqua Ducks) have teamed up to offer a special trolley tour of the park as a wonderful conclusion to the day’s activities.
