    Historic Albany Foundation Announces
    Preservation Merit Awards

ALBANY, NY – September 19, 2000 – Historic Albany Foundation has released its list of Preservation Merit Award winners for the year 2000. The awards will be presented at Historic Albany Foundation’s Annual Meeting, being held this year at the Albany Pump Station on Tuesday, September 26, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“Preservation Merit Awards are presented each year at Historic Albany Foundation’s Annual Meeting to recognize outstanding completed preservation efforts,” said Elizabeth Griffin, Executive Director.

According to Clare Yates, President of Historic Albany Foundation’s Board of Directors,  “We are also pleased to recognize individuals or organizations who have shown preservation leadership in an historic district with Preservation Initiative Awards.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to celebrate an individual’s superlative preservation efforts, and continuing contributions to the stewardship of Albany’s built environment.

This year, Historic Albany Foundation’s Board of Directors will also present a Preservation Advocate Award to Joseph Seymour, Commissioner of New York’s Office of General Services, for his leadership on the restoration of the Capitol, and for his commitment to the upkeep and maintenance of the Empire State Plaza.

The review committee for the awards was chaired by Jim Cohen, of Mesick Cohen Wilson & Baker, Architects. Committee members included Lise Bang-Jensen, Paul Bray, Elizabeth Griffin, Rich Nicholson, and Norman Rice.

The annual meeting is open to the public. Suggested donation is $10, to help defray the cost of the reception, which includes hors d’oeuvres, soft drinks and coffee. A cash bar will be available. The Albany Pump Station is wheelchair accessible. For additional information or to make a reservation, call Historic Albany Foundation at 465-0876.
