ALBANY, NY -- August 22, 2001 -- As part of its Living Preservation series, Historic Albany Foundation will present The Diagnosis and Treatment of Old House Ailments on Saturday, September 29, 2001. The workshop will be presented at the Ten Broeck Mansion, 9 Ten Broeck Place in Albany from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

This popular workshop will present basic diagnostic techniques to determine the cause of common problems in masonry and wood frame construction. Homeowners will learn to examine typical parts of a building where moisture may enter, the cause behind such problems as rising damp, efflorescence and insect infestation. This is an excellent primer for those contemplating the purchase of an old home. The seminar will include a tour of the Ten Broeck Mansion.

Presenter Jeff Dembowski holds an M.A. from Cornell University in Historic Preservation Planning.

Made possible in part by a grant from the New York State Council for the Arts, Architecture, Planning & Design program, this workshop will offer ample time for questions and answers. Light refreshments will be served.

The workshop is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. For more information, call the Foundation at 518-465-0876.
