Contact: Elizabeth Griffin -- 518/465-0876 Society of Architectural Historians ALBANY -- April 4, 2002 -- Historic Albany Foundation and the Society of Architectural Historians, Turpin Bannister Chapter, invite the public to attend a free lecture on two of Albany's monumental building complexes on Monday, April 8, 2002 at 6:00 p.m. Professor John Pipkin, a noted urban geographer, will present "Albany Mega-Structures: Using Them, Interpreting Them" at the SUNY Albany Campus Center, Room 375. The discussion will analyze and contrast the SUNY Campus and the Empire State Plaza. The program begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. "We hope this lecture will whet the public's appetite for a two-day conference planned for this fall, entitled Monumental Visions and Urban Transformations in Albany 1848 - 1978," said Historic Albany Foundation Executive Director Elizabeth Griffin. The conference is being organized by Society of Architectural Historians member Ray Bromley, and will be one of the key events of Albany's Heritage Year, a joint project of the University at Albany and community organizations in the Capital District to commemorate the 350th Anniversary of the Dutch founding of Beverwyck.
