News Home & Garden Tour of the Historic Ten Broeck Triangle Neighborhood ALBANY, NY -- June 19, 2002 -- The Albany County Historical Association and Historic Albany Foundation will conduct a Home & Garden Tour of the historic Ten Broeck Triangle Neighborhood on Thursday, June 27, 2002, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Ten Broeck Mansion & Gardens
Featured on the tour will be six homes, five gardens, as well as the Ten Broeck Mansion and Gardens, St. Joseph’s Church and park, and Van Rensselaer Park. Among the homes is 10 Ten Broeck Place, the second oldest framed house in the city of Albany (1842). Interested participants should park in the Ten Broeck Mansion parking lot, register, then discover many of the neighborhood’s beautiful homes and gardens. Docents will be available along the tour route to answer questions about the neighborhood, its history and homes, as well as current preservation efforts. Upon completion of the tour, participants are invited to return to the Ten Broeck Mansion gardens for a party, with music by “Two Broads with Alotta Sound.” Featured at Ten Broeck Mansion will be its new exhibit, The Treasure of Ten Broeck: The Estate, the Organization, and Its People. “Using objects ranging from General Ten Broeck’s commission papers and tankard, to Dudley Olcott’s picnic kit, to artifacts found by our archeology campers, to recent photographs by Arbor Hill third graders, this exhibit shows how the Ten Broeck Mansion property has been alive with history since the very beginning,” states Executive Director Brian Buff. “Some of the objects on display have been recently conserved, and we are very proud of them. We also have objects featured that have never been seen by the public and this adds to the excitement of the exhibit.” Visitors will also be able to see the Mansion’s wine cellar, and learn of its interesting history. Tickets for the event are $15.00/person, and are available by phone, mail or pick-up at the Mansion, 9 Ten Broeck Place, 518-436-9826. The event will be held rain or shine. ###
