Historic Albany Foundation Presents Neighborhood Walking
Tour as Part of Albany Heritage Year Celebration
ALBANY, NY (8/10/02) – Historic Albany Foundation
is sponsoring a walking tour of the Pastures neighborhood on Wednesday,
August 14, from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places as
Albany’s first historic district, the Pastures is rich in ethnic and architectural
history. This area, immediately south of downtown Albany, was once the
common pasture for the city and now contains some of our oldest houses.
Tony Opalka, an expert in architectural history and city
planning whose roots and interests lie in the historic districts of Albany,
will discuss history and architectural style, while pointing out significant
examples of Federal and Greek Revival architecture.
The tour begins at St. John Church of God in Christ, 94
Herkimer Street, approximately one block east of South Pearl Street and
one block south of Madison Avenue. The tour is free and open to the public.
Please call Historic Albany Foundation at 465-0876 for more information.
