The next class, “All About Windows” is scheduled for Saturday, October 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at 34 Learned Street in Albany. This workshop, held in the studio of artisan Peter Leue, will cover all aspects of the restoration of historic windows, including sash and frame repair, glazing, window removal and reinstallation and finishing. Leue earned his BFA from the School of American Crafts at the Rochester Institute of Technology and has taught woodworking since 1968. He pursues his artistic career as a sculptor while also providing fine woodworking and cabinet making to the public from his Albany studio. He enjoys a wide regional reputation. Mac Mowbray, well-known local craftsman and member of the National Guild of Professional Paperhangers, will be teaching “Wallpapering 101: How to Do It” on Saturday, November 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon This workshop, held in a historic home in the process of restoration, will include an actual demonstration of the complete process of paperhanging on site, and will include discussion of paper selection and installation tips. “Vintage Bathrooms” will be the subject of the Saturday, November 23 workshop, which will be held from 10 a.m.to 12 noon at 66 Chestnut Street in Albany. Participants will learn how to renovate their outdated bathrooms. Re-use of existing fixtures, faucets, flooring materials and lighting will be discussed. Mary Johnston, an interior designer with extensive experience in bathroom and kitchen design, will teach the workshop. She holds a BFA from Georgia State University in Atlanta and practices from her office in Red Hook, NY. HAF’s Architectural Parts Warehouse at 89 Lexington Avenue in Albany will be the site of the Saturday, December 7 workshop, “Fabrication and Repair of Decorative Plaster,” which will provide essential information for homeowners thinking of tackling elaborate plaster restoration. This workshop will demonstrate the fabrication and repair of decorative cornice and medallion elements of the historic home. Actual cornice will be duplicated and repaired. Eugene Lugowski will teach this workshop. Lugowski holds a BA in Building Construction from Krosno University, Krosno, Poland, and has more than 14 years of construction supervisory experience in the Capital District. He owns Historical Restorations, Albany, NY. Historic Albany Foundation is a private, not-for-profit membership organization established in 1974 to promote the preservation and appreciation of the built environment of the City of Albany.
