    Scott Heyl, President of the Preservation League of New York State, announces that St. Joseph's Church and the Ten Broeck Triangle neighborhood have been named one of New York's Seven to Save for 2002.


    Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings announces that in addition to authorizing $30,000 to stabilize the Church's choir loft, he has instructed the city's corporation counsel to begin eminent domain proceedings. 

    The city has already spent over $300,000 stabilizing the church because the current owner has failed to do so.


    State Assemblyman Jack McEneny, whose family worshiped at St. Joseph's Church, pledged his support to the Neighborhood Reinvestment Act, a state tax credit for owners of historic homes. 

    This critically needed tool would not only benefit this Albany neighborhood, but all historic urban and rural neighborhoods throughout New York State. 


    J. Winthrop Aldrich, speaking on behalf of NYS Commissioner or Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Bernadette Castro, announces that Historic Albany Foundation  will receive a $300,000 Bond Act grant for restorations to St. Joseph's Church.  

    The grant will fund Phase II of the project, which will include the removal of structural scaffolding currently supporting the building, the repair and replacement of cracked beams in the main tower, and renovations to the roof drainage system.

    Helen Black, President of Ten Broeck Triangle Preservation League, called efforts to save St. Joseph's Church "an answer to prayer" and urged the passage of the Neighborhood Reinvestment Act to encourage further preservation of Albany's historic residential neighborhoods.
