Historic Albany Foundation Presents
2005 Preservation Merit Awards at Annual Meeting

ALBANY, NY -- May 24, 2005 -- Historic Albany Foundation has released its list of Preservation Merit Award winners for 2005. The awards will be presented at The Chancery of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany on Thursday, May 26, 2005 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Located at One Sprague Place on Washington Park, the Chancery was designed by McKim, Mead and White in 1902 for Benjamin Arnold, a lumber dealer, banker, and railroad president.

“We are delighted to recognize the outstanding completed preservation efforts that make it possible for us to continue celebrating our city’s magnificent built environment,” said Elizabeth Griffin, the Foundation’s Executive Director.

  • George Carpinello, Lifetime Achievement
  • Elfrieda Textores, Lifetime Achievement, posthumous, for neighborhood advocacy
  • Thomas and Anne Older, Preservation Merit Award for stewardship of 7 Englewood Place
  • Stanford Mausoleum, Albany Rural Cemetery, Preservation Merit Award for restoration
  • Huck Finn’s Warehouse, Preservation Initiative Certificate for investment in historic building
  • County Executive Mike Breslin, Preservation Initiative Certificate for 174 and 176 Jay Street
  • New York State Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, Preservation Initiative certificate for brownstone patching at 188 Washington Avenue

  • Christopher and Terra Stratton Migliaro, Preservation Initiative Certificate for interior rehabilitation of 419 Madison Avenue

  • Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Preservation Merit Award for brownstone restoration and roof replacement

  • Friends of the Madison, Preservation Initiative Award for grassroots community organizing

  • School 21, Preservation Merit Award for rehabilitation and continued use of historic school
