Albany's Preservation Pledge
For the Third Millennium

In recognition of Albany as a great American historic city, stretching from the pre-colonial settlements along the Hudson River to the ancient pine barrens of the Albany Pine Bush, we hereby commit through our energies and actions in the public and private sector to actively protect and use Albany’s historic, cultural and natural resources to produce a vibrant economy.

Working together, we, the undersigned will help make our city
The Preservation City of the nation in the third millennium.

This Preservation Pledge includes but is not limited to the following types of preservation and environmental enhancement  activities:

  • preservation and maintenance of historic buildings with strict guidelines limiting demolition to a last resort, and  with community-wide efforts to save endangered buildings

  • conservation of the endangered Pine Bush Preserve from further encroachment of economic development

  • stewardship of our archaeological sites and heritage

  • support for environmentally sensitive and culturally compatible development of our historic Hudson River shore
