Historic Albany Foundation Presents Slide Show: For Release: Immediate ALBANY, NY -- March 21, 2003 -- Historic Albany Foundation will host a panel discussion and slide show on efforts to preserve the former St. Joseph’s Church on Wednesday, March 26, from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. The presentation will take place at the Albany Visitors Center at Quackenbush Square, and free parking is available. The panelists will include:
"St. Joseph’s is one of the city’s most important historic landmarks," said Elizabeth Griffin, Executive Director of Historic Albany Foundation. "This lecture will give us a chance to provide some details on the work that has already been done by the City of Albany to stabilize this structure, discuss its historical and architectural significance, and consider its potential for future re-use." The extraordinary Gothic-style building is situated near the eighteenth-century Ten Broeck Mansion, in the center of the Arbor Hill Historic District, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building been vacant for nearly 10 years. Historic Albany Foundation recently obtained a $300,000 grant from the state to use for additional repairs and is about to embark on a major capital campaign to raise matching funds. The Foundation will oversee the next phase of stabilization as well as work with the city and community on pursuing possible owners and uses for the structure.
