One of Albany’s last Dutch houses had been hidden from view for decades, obscured by years of exterior alterations and slap-dash interior remodelings. Although most alterations were generally done to keep up with the times and changes of the architectural tastes of the time, some were an attempt to hide the historic importance of the building…lurking within.
Join HAF as Architectural historians Doug Bucher and Walter Wheeler, and architectural conservator Bill Brandow discuss the clues and experiences that led to the discovery of the 1728 Van Ostrande-Radliff House concealed beneath the centuries of additions and alterations of 48 Hudson Street.
This telling of the Dutch house’s lively origin story will be moderated by Albany Archives’ Matt Malette, and will be recorded at Overit Media in the marvelous adaptive reuse of the former St. Teresa’s Church.
