Restoration of a 1936 Paul Schaefer-built Niskayuna home
Presentation with Q&A by Adam Williams

HAF is pleased to announce the inaugural lecture in a series at Common Roots (previously known as the Albany Pump Station) in Albany.

In his early twenties, Paul Schaefer established himself as a builder of distinctive homes in and around Schenectady County. More than a hundred Schaefer homes still stand as fine examples of Dutch Colonial and Georgian Colonial Revival styles.

Presenter Adam Williams is the fourth owner of 1608 Lexington Parkway, originally built in 1936 by Schaefer for Frederick Law. Adam has spent the past three years restoring elements of the home's fine design and construction, salvaging many period-correct fixtures from HAF's Warehouse. The evening's presentation will include detailed interior and exterior photos, mapping efforts to identify area homes built by Paul Schaefer, and archival context on Niskayuna’s transition from farmland to suburb. Those old enough to have known Paul Schaefer are encouraged to attend and share stories of Niskayuna's esteemed builder and champion of Adirondacks conservation.

The lecture will take place at Common Roots (formally the Albany Pump Station) Wine, beer, cider or a non-alcoholic beverage is included in the ticket price.
