OVERVIEW
The Architectural Parts Warehouse was established in 1978, just four years after Historic Albany Foundation to prevent historic building parts from being lost forever to the landfills. The Parts Warehouse’s mission was and continues today to be to retain Albany’s architectural house parts for reuse in its remaining historic buildings. While the original focus of our salvage efforts were properties within the City’s borders, salvaged and donated items now come from all over the Northeast.
HAF’s mission is to preserve and protect buildings that have architectural, history, or civic value through advocacy, technical assistance and education. Historic Albany Foundation’s Architectural Parts Warehouse fulfills the mission of the organization. HAF is a nonprofit, under IRS rule 501c3.
POSITION: Part time, average of 24 hours / week primarily on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Hours can be flexible and varied based on need. The Warehouse is open to the public on Wednesday and Friday (Noon to 6pm) and Saturday (9am to 4pm) each week. Additional hours may be requested to assist with / participate in HAF events and programs.
The Warehouse Assistant should be an experienced “do-it-yourselfer” as well as some knowledge of retail and merchandising with excellent customer service skills, with an interest and passion for historic preservation, recycling, and reuse which is part of the mission of the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tasks the warehouse assistant would perform:
● process incoming donations to the Warehouse including doors, windows, plumbing items, lighting, etc. This may require the removal of nails, cleaning and small repairs, as well as moving items to their proper place within the Warehouse.
● assist customers in the warehouse, check out customers making purchases, answer the warehouse phone
● help carry items for customers
● help the manager move heavy items (radiators, sinks, large doors, etc)
● staff the warehouse during open hours when the manager is out of the building
● participate in salvages
● assist with pick-ups of architectural items as needed
● Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
o High School diploma
o Valid NYS Driver’s License and ability to drive a large truck or van
o Skills in one or more of the following fields: retail sales, construction, architectural history, historic preservation, architectural salvage, recycling, and/or building trades.
o Ability to lift heavy objects.
o Great communication skills, excellent team player, motivated independent worker, great customer service skills, flexible schedule.
o Creative and proactive self-starter
Pay/Benefits:
● $20.50 per hour starting pay
