Position: Manager HAF Architectural Parts Warehouse
Job Type: Part-time, Hourly up to 35hrs/wk

The Historic Albany Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to preserving, protecting, and promoting the stewardship and reuse of historic, architectural, and civic resources throughout the City of Albany. We achieve this through providing advocacy, education, and technical assistance to property owners, developers, government officials, and community stakeholders. Over the past decades, Historic Albany has also played a key role in protecting Albany’s unique 400+ year heritage through salvaging building elements via our Architectural Parts Warehouse, the oldest continuously operating not-for-profit architectural salvage business in the country.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and versatile Warehouse Manager to join our team and oversee our retail warehouse operations. The ideal candidate will prioritize safety, maintain a clean and organized workplace, and provide exceptional customer service to enhance the customer experience. This position oversees the Warehouse Assistant and works in close collaboration with the Program and Events Manager for advertising efforts. They report directly to the Executive Director, and are the liaison to the Board of Directors Warehouse / Buildings & Grounds Committee.
Current Hours & Location:
Warehouse Hours: 12pm-6pm Wednesdays and Fridays; 9am-4pm Saturdays
Salvages, Pick-ups, Deliveries: Throughout the week as scheduled with customers
Retail Warehouse Location: 89 Lexington Ave, Albany, NY
Please note that days, hours and location may change with our eventual move from 89 Lexington Avenue to 48 Hudson Avenue in downtown Albany.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision: Supervise the Warehouse Assistant
Donation Receiving: Efficiently handle incoming donations (via pick up or drop off) and outgoing items, ensuring timely delivery. Process donation receipts for donors’ Tax benefits and give to the Development Manager for HAF database. Maintain records.
Warehouse Logistics: Organize and maintain the warehouse to optimize space and accessibility.
Customer Service: Sales: Engage with customers in a friendly and approachable manner, offering assistance and product information.
Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels, and ensure accurate labeling and pricing of items. Plan and prepare requests and sales to maintain inventory balance.
Item Creation: Create new product listings as necessary, including accurate descriptions, pricing, and images, in our systems or online social media platforms. Coordinate with the Program & Events Manager to highlight items in the Weekly Newsletter.
General Business Functions: Perform daily business operations, including cashier duties, answering phones, and addressing customer inquiries via email and social media. Manage all point-of-sale and daily financial duties: process sales across all payment methods, maintain proper cash-handling procedures, reconcile cash and receipts.
Safety and Maintenance: Uphold a safe working environment by following personnel policies, safety procedures, accident reporting, and state/federal labor laws. Provide general maintenance duties for all of HAF’s physical spaces including the warehouse, offices, grounds, and Warehouse Van.
Volunteer Management: Responsible for recruiting, scheduling, and retaining volunteers.
Architectural Salvage Field Work: Coordinate with Clients to schedule salvage opportunities. Perform walk-throughs to identify materials for removal. Schedule volunteer team, ensuring skills and safety. Ensure that all contract and insurance requirements are met. Perform deconstruction activities in a controlled manner and transport materials back to the warehouse for processing and sales.
Part of the HAF Team: Attend the weekly staff meeting and assist with HAF’s major events and programs as needed.
Skills:
Have experience with basic hand and power tools
Able to lift and carry 50 lbs. (+/-)
Be comfortable dealing with a diverse customer base.
Able to identify valuable items such as doors, windows, flooring, fixtures, and hardware in buildings
Knowledge of architectural styles, materials, and proper salvage techniques. Training Available.
Capacity to clean and minorly repair salvaged items
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong problem solving skills
Qualifications:
18 years of age or older
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid drivers' license & Reliable transportation
Ability to work in a variety of conditions, including dirty, hot, cold, and heights
Prior experience in retail, warehousing, or similar roles preferred.
Customer-focused with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
Candidates will be subject to a background check before employment
Pay/Benefits:
$26.50 per hour starting pay
Up to 11 paid holidays per year
