The Holland Avenue Tudors in Albany were designed and constructed by prominent Albany builder Jesse H. Leonard between 1933 and 1937. The homes are exemplary of the Tudor style both inside and out. The style itself is based on Elizabethan or medieval English architecture and became popular in the United States in the first quarter of the 20th century. The style is characterized by steeply pitched roofs, massive chimneys, front facing gables, half timbering, eclectic brick bond or stonework, and tall narrow casement windows. While each of the six homes are unique, they each have all of the hallmarks of the Tudor Style on the exterior and bring the style into the interior mixing medieval with art deco.
